Kammerchor Manila wins at the 6th World Choir Games


Kammerchor Manila, a church-choir based at the Holy Sacrifice Parish in UP Diliman, recently won a BRONZE MEDAL (Champions Competition) for the Mixed Chamber Choir Category and a SILVER DIPLOMA (Open Competition) for the Folklore Category at the 6th World Choir Games held in Shaoxing, China last July 15-19, 2010.

Brillante Mendoza, award winning Director

Brillante Mendoza, born and raised in San Fernando, Pampanga, have no idea that directing will be his passion and calling in life. He took up Fine Arts in college that brought him to work in an advertising firm. He then took up Masters in Advertising that also led him to apply for a scholarship in Film Making, and that is where it all started.

He only took Film Making for a year but already started working in the mainstream (eg. Popular movies, action genre, mellow drama and traditional movies). This experience brought him to work with other action movie directors, where he is assigned in the Production Design. But after several years in this field, Mendoza realizes he was not happy that made him return to his first profession, advertising.

Naga Jewelry biz cited in Netherlands

A costume jewelry business based in Naga City was recently recognized in an international business plan competition hosted in the Netherlands.

Baycrafts jewelry, a microenterprise started and run by Marianne Olano, was awarded the Women in Business Retail Prize during the International Business in Development Challenge.

The BiD challenge is an online business plan competition among enterprising ideas that combine profit with the improvement of living standards in a country. A local leg of the competition is also run, hosted by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP).

Jojo Austria, viewing the world with his art


Julio Jose Austria, commonly known as Jojo Austria, graduated Fine Arts in the University of Santo Tomas. To date, he already had 12 solo shows in Austria, Germany, USA, Thailand and the Philippines, for a short span of 5 years. Not to mention the 35 group shows in between.

Truly, this artist is rising fast in the art industry and nothing seems to be able to stop this young artist to soar high. More artworks are expected to come out from this young lad that will surely make a mark in the Philippine art industry, and maybe, to the world. A Guinness World Record Attempt

The painting activity is an advocacy of the OTSAA as to create awareness and concern for the culture of Peace and environment. Invited artists (amateurs or practitioners) may join, Filipinos or foreigners in no age limit. Participants are representation of OTSAA and the Filipino campaign manifestos for the UNESCO’s 2001-2010: International Decade for Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World.

The painting activity is not an art competition. It is a historical collaborative session to support the matter mentioned above.

June 30 declared as special non-working holiday

Outgoing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared June 30 a special non-working holiday nationwide, a television report said Thursday morning.

A GMA News' Flash Report said deputy presidential spokesperson Garry Olivar confirmed that Mrs. Arroyo declared June 30, a Wednesday, a holiday to give way for the inauguration rites of President-elect Benigno Aquino III and Arroyo's last day in office.

Kaida Gallery Philippines celebrates 32010

Kaida Gallery celebrates its third year anniversary with 32010 on February 14, 2010, Sunday. It is all about art and numbers as the gallery opens its doors to the public with an impressive gathering of artists who have emerged in the Philippine art scene in the ‘80s, ‘90s and the ‘00s. In the tradition of Kaida’s annual grand exhibitions-- 1/50 in 2008 and 2/60 in 2009, the number of artists to be showcased is increased by ten, totaling 3/70 this year.

Angelo Ortiz, a World champion Pianist of the 2006 WCOPA (World Championship of Performing Arts), is performing an all Spanish Classical repertoire entitled “Variaciones Classicas Espanolas – piano de concierto” at the Meralco Theatre on January 30, 2010 at 7:30pm.
